1899 | : | Mr. V.H.Toorabally, founder of the Company, came to Japan to look into the possibilities of starting an export-import trading company. |
1905 | : | Started business activity at Yamashita-cho in Yokohama as sole proprietorship. This was the Meiji Era during which Japan had opened its shores to foreigners. |
1912 | : | As a leading firm of the business community of that time, the Export Merchants Association of Japan presented a Silver Cup to the founder, Mr. V.H.Toorabally in recognition and appreciation of his excellent performance. He was also appointed the President of the Indian Community and occupied this position for several years. |
1918 | : | The continued expansion of the business necessitated the company to shift its office to Kobe, which was at the time the leading international port of Japan. |
1922 | : | The company was officially registered in Kobe at the Kobe Registration office. |
1927 | : | Mr. H.S.Toorabally, son of
Mr. V.H.Toorabally came to Japan, and took charge of the company.The Company
was a leading exporter of the following Japanese products: Porcelain Wares, Vacuum Flasks, Umbrellas. |
1941 | : | With the outbreak of World War II, Mr. H.S.Toorabally left Japan. |
1947 | : | As one of the few selected prominent business leaders invited by SCAP (Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers) authorities to re-open trade between India and Japan, the present President, Mr. H.S.Toorabally again came to Japan. The Company was re-opened in Osaka to export Japanese products such as Textiles, Machineries, Bridgestone Motor Tyres, Yanmar diesel engines and General merchandise. |
1951 | : | The Company was incorporated in Osaka. |
1959 | : | Being one of the oldest Indian firm in Osaka, and enjoying very good reputation amongst manufacturers and suppliers, the Indian Embassy requested the Company to introduce Indian Tea, Cashew Nuts, etc in the Japanese market. |
1965 | : | Opened a show room and sales office in Tokyo. It was located on the 7th floor of the prestigious TOC Building at Gotanda (Tokyo Merchandise Mart). |
1969 | : | Organized one of the first "India Fair" at Kintetsu, Tennoji, a leading Department Store in Osaka. This was one of the first introduction to a broad range of Indian products in Osaka at one time and place. |
1970 | : | At the request of The Handicraft & Handlooms Export Corporation of India Limited (A subsidiary of the State Trading Corporation - a Government of India Trading House) the company managed one shop at the Indian Pavilion and one shop in the International Bazaar at EXPO 1970 held in Osaka. Sales at both the shops surpassed all expectations. |
1980 | : | The Company's DIAMOND JUBILEE YEAR. |
1992 | : | The president, Mr. H.S.Toorabally, received the HIND RATAN award from the finance committee, Government of India for outstanding services in the promotion of trade between India and Japan. |
1999 | : | Due to expansion of business shifted the Tokyo office to the main fabric wholesale market in Nihonbashi. It is now located in Bakurocho. |
2002 | : | Director, Mr. F.S.Toorabally, assumed the position of Honorary President for the Indian Chamber of Commerce Japan. |
